Maximalism vs Minimalism. Benefits Of Getting Organized | FinCalC

Look around. Observe. Notice what are the things around you that you don't need.

We all face this problem of having unnecessary things around, that distracts us from doing important work that needs focus.

Not only we get distracted but we pay from our pockets to buy these things. So, are we paying to get distracted?

Maximalist

"A Maximalist is someone who puts unnecessary priority on things."

If you are a maximalist, you tend to buy things that you don't need. You put unhealthy priority on material things. You always wish to have things that other people have.

What a maximalist doesn't understand is he is spending money to buy things which will distract him. It will take physical space and doesn't add any value in his life if he doesn't need it.

"Material things probably will be thrown away after few days of use as they are bought with greed and not based on need."

Maximalist spend money on things that they don't need and distract their mind with physical space acquired.

Minimalist

"A Minimalist is someone who understands what are his needs and buys things that are really needed."

A Minimalist understands the difference between needs and wants and only buys things that he really need. He doesn't like clutter in his life and is highly organized.

He enjoys more physical space and doesn't get distracted easily.

There are many other advantages of being a Minimalist:

1. Increased Productivity

Productivity can be defined as the amount of work that can be done in a particular time period. A Minimalist follows 'less is more' concept and tries to limit the number of things he acquire. This makes him focus on his important work and increases Productivity.

2. Not Tied to the Past

With minimum things, you are not tied to your past. You are not forced to consistently remember about your bad memories related to few things that your ex gifted you. Just throw it away and you'll be free from any clutter.

3. Less is Better

You know about the 80/20 rule? We just need 20% of our things to complete 80% of our work. Remaining 80% is used to complete 20% of our work. Analyze what you don't need at all and throw it away or give it to someone who needs it.

4. You are Less Distracted

When you have less stuff, you are less distracted. If you have one phone, you'll probably get distracted few times due to notifications. If you have two, the number of distractions will be twice.

Have a watch instead of checking time on your phone. It will save a lot of time and you'll be less distracted.

5. You Focus on Health and Hobbies

When you are less distracted, you'll finish your work on time and eventually have more time to focus on yourself. You'll start getting more time to look after what's important in your life such as your health and hobbies. You'll be able to give more time to your family.

6. You are Organized and Happy

With less stuff and less distractions, you will tend to keep your things organized and find them when you need them on time. You'll be less annoyed of searching for things which takes longer than usual if you are not organized.
