How to Spend Less While Moving To a Different Place | FinCalC

Many times we have to move from one place to another due to many factors like change in job, working on site or settling down in a different town or country. We have to take care of the things we have accumulated over the years and move them as well, as we are moving to another place.

Nowadays there are many Packers and Movers available to help you out in moving your belongings from one place to another. The cost of moving depends on the people you are hiring to do your work.

Here are some factors we should consider to reduce the cost of moving:

1. Don't Pay for Boxes

Usually the company that helps us in moving our belongings provide us with the boxes in which the belongings are moved safely from one place to another with additional costs. This cost can be cut down.

You can cut down the cost of the boxes they provide. Sometimes the cost of these boxes are more than the cost of moving the content in the box itself.

You can find free boxes from various stores such as medicines, general stores and other local stores if you have good connections. They usually throw these boxes out, that they receive while ordering stuff for selling purpose.

2. Take Less Stuff

Reduce the number of items that you take with you to the new place. Follow the principle of 'less is more' and donate stuff that you no longer need.

"Take less stuff with you. It will reduce the cost of moving from one place to another."

It will also clear your mind and physical space and avoid accumulating any clutter at the new place.

3. Do it Yourself

Instead of hiring packers and movers to move your stuff from one place to another, do it yourself. Pack your stuff and move it in a private vehicle.

Take help from your friends staying near your current or new location who might help you in moving your belongings to the new place. This will reduce the cost of moving your stuff.

4. Let the Post Office Help You

If you have books or magazines to be moved, you can take help of the local post office. Post offices help moving such things at low cost.

Let them help you move some of your reading stuff at low cost while you take care of other important things. Though they take some extra time to move your belongings but at a low cost.

5. Moving off times

If possible, plan your movement to a new place at off times. Usually the start and the end of the month are the times when the packers and movers are very busy with several customers to move their stuff from one place to another.

Plan to move your belongings in the middle of the month. During this time there is not much demand and you can negotiate with the packers and movers company as well.

6. Get Money for your Move

Last but not the least, get money while you move your stuff. Yes this is possible.

Relocation. Ask your employer to pay for relocation. If the requirement is by your employer that you have to move to the new place, then ask your employer to pay for moving your stuff.

Many times in organizations, employees are asked to get relocated to another place due to client's requirement or some other reason. You can take benefit of such reasons and ask them to pay for moving your belongings. They don't have any reason to say no in such cases.
